I spent today waiting for storms that never came. I was looking forward to them, actually. Not only because I love a good thunderstorm, but because they would've provided cover for a day of near-idleness. Instead, I crouched guiltily by the computer in my pyjama pants as monshu left to do the shopping in flawless weather. We had a long nap when he returned, and then I did a couple token chores, such as repotting the rosemary. I also went out and admired the new rhododendrons Scooter purchased for the common area (without consulting us, natch). Signs of the transition to summer are multiplying, some of them more prosaic than others. Today it struck me as I did the laundry that the loads were ⅔ or less what they have been. We're wearing fewer layers, and the Old Man no longer has to exchange his turtleneck for a t-shirt every night as he prepares for bed.

When I called Mom for Mother's Day, we talked plants again. She reminded me of the temper tantrum I threw when she asked me to plant some bulbs for her and which I will never live down even though it was years ago now. And my sister's latest pregnancy is now Facebook-official, so I finally feel I can talk about it. It was so unexpected they want to break the naming pattern they chose even though there's only one vowel left and she asked me for "unusual choices". So far, my favourite suggestion is "V, pronounced 'Quintus'", but I have a feeling this is going to be a hard sell.
