Spring dinner

I know that Nuphy has made it home safely far drunker than he was when he left tonight, but I can't help but worry when a septagenarian stumbles away saying he's going to "look in" at the local gay bar. Still, it was a relief to have him out of the house. I think it's a testament to the mellowing effect of being freed from the yoke that the Old Man was more amused than annoyed by his belligerence and bluster. (Of course, it helped greatly that it was all aimed at me.)
At least I was relaxing and enjoying things by that point. I had an irritating cellphone failure which left me wondering what the hell had become of our other guest while
monshu did his best to keep dinner warm without turning any of it to ash. The roast potatoes looked burned, but tasted fantastic. It was a very nice piece of lamb, but I could've stood it a bit rarer. And the kale and spinach pie was being served room, so no worries there.
Even though we ate early, it was a bit too nippy for al fresco dining. But we did take both our apéritifs and our digestifs there. A glorious day all around--and our neighbours celebrated in the middle of the day, so by late afternoon it was almost tranquil. I welcomed that, as my nap had left me more grumpy than before. We also enjoyed the first harvest from the garden (if you ignore the catnip I've been picking for nearly two weeks): snipped chives on both the potatoes and the ham omelets I fried up for breakfast--the only eggs we got, as it turned out. Just not a big fan of hard-boiled eggs here.
