Boringly bored

I've been feeling disengaged lately and I'm not sure what to do about it. If not for the fact that I was hosting cocktails on Saturday, it's unlikely I would've seen anybody or done anything. The interactions that night were enjoyable enough at the time, but in retrospect they didn't seem to amount to much at all. I feel like I'm not interesting enough to catch the attention of interesting people (at least for any length of time) yet I'm also not dull enough to be content interacting with dull people.
My current novel, The deposition of Father McGreevy by Brian O'Doherty, is also not doing much to hold my attention. The frame story is lame and seems to be nothing more than an excuse for including wordy footnotes about cultural details I could easily Google if I wanted to know more about them. The prose doesn't sparkle and the central character hasn't revealed much complexity in fifty pages of talking about himself. I'll give to page 100 to improve. But if I decide not continue, I'm not sure what I'll start reading instead. Der Steppenwolf?
