This post is intended to make all of you transplanted Midwesterners seven shades of green. Last night, we had a fantastic thunderstorm. It rolled in around 4:30 a.m. and just doused the landscape. Lightning strikes were so numerous that there was no pause between thunderclaps or flashes--there was always something going on somewhere along the horizon, and often in several places at once. Many of the flashes were so blinding, though, that it was difficult to keep looking out the window. At times, I looked at my shadow and marvelled at how diffuse it was (since the light creating it had no single source).

I couldn't help thinking how awesome this all must've looked from [livejournal.com profile] monshu's apartment. My windows are east-facing, which means the rain never comes in (except in the rare cases where we have a seich on the lake), but it also means I don't see storms approaching. [livejournal.com profile] monshu, on the other hand, has a commanding view of the western horizon with windows that reach from knee-level to ceiling. Since I knew he'd be awake and I wasn't getting any sleep anyway, I called him up to share the experience. The heaviest part lasted about a half an hour; I was pleasantly surprised to get to work and not find it leaking.

I figured as much, but then I'm never happier than when I'm self-righteously accusing others of wronging me.
