Heartburn and headwind

Well, looks like I might be up for a while so I should look for a constructive way to use the time. You know those little silhouettes of chili peppers Thai restaurants use to warn you which dishes are really spicy? Looks like Ruby of Siam has dropped them from their menu. Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way. Now I'm not sure what I can and can't order safely, since nothing in the description of the Kaprao Haw Kai led me to believe it would be any more rich in capsaicin than your typical basil chicken dish. Hilariously we almost ended up going somewhere else entirely because poor Nuphy got confuzzled and ended up on the wrong block, desperately texting me that Ruby was gone and there was a Middle Eastern restaurant in its place.
Such a shame that I can't go to bed yet when I got home in record time. Hänsel und Gretel is a short opera; it was over in a little over two hours and I was on the express bus heading home by 10 p.m. The only reason I didn't walk through the door even earlier than I did was that the sight of the effects of the howling winds inspired me to get off at Rosemont so I could walk along the lakeshore for a bit. Unfortunately, the winds are from the west, so maybe they've got stunning breakers in Michigan but all we have is a gentle lapping.
Of course, that was due east of where I live, so I was fighting the headwinds all the way back home. At least temperatures haven't plunged yet; currently they've only just dropped below freezing. It was more out of fears of losing my scarf that I held my collar closed most of the way.
clintswan invited me out tonight, but I don't know that I can bring myself to leave this coziness anymore. At least not until tomorrow's brunch.
