Update on Tank Restaurant:

Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] monshu invited me to lunch on Argyle and I suggested Phở Xe Tăng, even though I feared it might be stuffy and smoky. As it turned out, it was neither. For the first time I can recall, I was in a Vietnamese restaurant and no one was smoking! Not the group of teens on one side of us or the family with two small boys on the other. What's up with that? In any case, [livejournal.com profile] monshu said he wanted something light, so we ordered gỏi ngó sen again. Just as yummy as the first time! I think that must be lotus root after all, just not as I'm used to it. Usually, it comes in huge fibrous slices with swiss-cheese holes; these lotus roots are long tender white cylinders. Must look for them next time we go shopping! The spring rolls were also quite respectable, though I don't know that I'd order a cà-phê sữa đá there again.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] monshu, naturally, who served a lovely, simple four course meal on Sunday afternoon:
  1. Cocktails, hummus, and herb-encrusted salami
  2. Filet mignon marinated in brandy and madeira, pesto potato salad, and asparagus in vinaigrette
  3. Sex
  4. Strawberries macerated in Gran Marnier over vanilla ice cream
Like magic, the storms stopped during his grilling window, so we didn't have to give up and toss the filets in the broiler. Also, I managed to get home without getting soaked. Yay!
