This week's lullaby

Last night, at Nuphy's bedside, I wished I had found time to learn the lyrics to the shanty "Sloop John B". He introduced me to the Beach Boys' version of it when we were together and I've loved it ever since. Such a lovely song, so melancholy, the narrative only half-comprehensible, the harmonies perfect. I wanted to have it handy in case he grew restless and I needed to sing him another lullaby. The last time I did that, I chose a melancholy German song from one of the CDs nibadi burned for me.

I can't sing well, but, without Nuphy's patient instruction, I wouldn't be able to carry a tune at all. Music is very important to him and he has a wonderful sense of pitch. As soon as we could, we got permission to bring a CD player to his room. (When the Swiss Miss heard this, he said, "You've got to play Janáček's Symphonietta. It's his favourite. He always said that it's so full of life.") Last night, Vivaldi came on the radio and Rubeus tried to get a rise out of him by misidentifying it as Brahms. I said something derisive about "typewriter music", not expecting a response, but Nuphy raised his right arm, extended his finger, and began waving it like a baton in time to the Four Seasons.

In any case, if it goes over well, I may start relearning the words to Suo Gân for the next time.

Du irrst dich. Keine Ahnung welche Kriterien du anlegst? Du willst ja keine Aufnahmeprüfung an der Musikhochschule mit Hauptfach Gesang absolvieren...

es ist sehr schön, dir zuzuhören, wenn du singst. Ich habe es jedenfalls sehr gemocht und Nuphy wird es ganz bestimmt sehr mögen (seltsam, weil ich sein Bild längere Zeit betrachtet habe und auch weil ich ein Weilchen in seinem Haus war, habe ich das Gefühl, ihn irgendwann kennengelernt zu haben).
