Looks like no meatballs for tomorrow's Frühlingssuppe. There was a window there once it became clear we weren't having a condo board meeting tonight after all when I could've gone to the store for ingredients, but it passed in a haze which I only snapped out of a few minutes ago. So I'll be making a dash to Devon tomorrow after work and then rushing home to cook dinner as promised. Fortunately the recipe looks basically identical to the one I have for sorrel soup, only with a greater variety of greens. Should be a good opportunity to use up some of what's in the garden.

I wouldn't have thought such a smooth move would've taken so much out of me, but all that rushing about has a tendency to pass unnoticed until you stop. A sleepless hour or two last night didn't help any. I don't know what, if anything, I was dreading; my boss actually managed to act managerial today, effectively directing the stevedores and checking in with everyone to make sure they had what they needed without simultaneously driving them all crazy. So far I like the new arrangement: Sure, I miss out on my sliver of a window view, but I feel much more tranquil facing oncoming visitors instead of having them approach through my blind spot.

This overstuffed weekend is really making me wish I could take some time off, but I simply can't afford to with evaluation hell breathing down my neck. On my way to Ombra last night to meet [livejournal.com profile] monshu and the Turtles, I got a call and then a text from my mother's brother asking if I could play cicerone to an old friend of his on what sounds like a prospie visit to Hyde Park. No one in the family has ever made such a request of me before and I feel a tremendous responsibility to come through for this uncle given all he's done for us over the years. No word yet from the man, though, so perhaps I've off the hook?

At least I'd only have them for part of a day. Saturday night is Big Bear Cocktails again and Sunday is Little Bear Easter Dinner, featuring Nuphy, Scoutmaster, [livejournal.com profile] clintswan, and the Nurse without a Nickname. I'm hoping it will be a good mix; no one really knows each other, but they're all solid, low-key guys so it should be relaxing and enjoyable. GWO is cooking so it'll be lamb and not hare; sounds like NWAN may be good for deviled eggs, which relieves me of hors-d'œuvres duty.
