Needing is one thing

I slept poorly last night and woke up thinking that I could go in for a mediocre 7.5 hours or a solid 3-4. So I chose the latter and slept in, then got around to some errands like buying furnace filters and making an appointment with the vet--things I hardly needed to take a morning off to do, but which nevertheless simply haven't gotten done otherwise. Plotting out my route, I realised it would take me right past La Única, so I picked up a Cuban sandwich with tostones for lunch and then ate it sitting on a circular bench at work. The beds nearby were lousy with robins; I counted at least a dozen among the blooming hyacinths and budding viburnums.
When I got home, our ex-lodger was over, so I joined him and
monshu in a cocktail on the porch before we all headed over to Cilantro for dinner. Sadly, it's still not really living up to the promise of that first visit. We ordered the moo ping for the first time and though the flavour was good, some pieces were awfully tough. But I kept eating my barbecued pork ba mee well past the point of being full, so you can't fault their flavour. Feeling the need to walk off some of that excess, I strolled up and around the neighbourhood, stopping to smell lilacs and crabapples. I saw plenty of dandelions and maple keys ready to drop, a crescent moon in the west of a sky that went from clear to overcast and back again in the course of an hour or two.
