Dead man waking

My "twenty-minute nap" turned into a two-hour doze, so I may be up for a while yet.
monshu, too. He foolishly got caught up in a bad movie on cable and watched it through to the overdetermined climax. (Imagine my surprise to come home from my weekly watching party to find him still up!) He's in the kitchen right now availing himself of the soporific qualities of milk. Of course, his coming up brought the kitty in its wake, so now it's the whole gang banging around upstairs like it was the middle of the afternoon again.
Losing that chunk of time meant I had to cancel my German lesson with the Rabbi, but I did convince him to join us for the season finale of The Walking Dead. Demogorgon, what a stupid-ass show! As I was telling
spookyfruit recently, his and
princeofcairo's RPG campaigns have spoiled this kind of shlock for me forever. If your ragtag group is too much of a garden party of morons to survive two sessions of a Kengame or Wilgame, then I no longer care what happens to a single one of them. This week was worse than usual because for like the first ten minutes the show actually built expectations, then pissed them away with one stupid character decision after another.
At least dinner was a smashing success. Marinated grilled chicken thighs, orange-fennel-onion salad (my contribution), green beans and rice (our host's), and ice cream for dessert (nominally the Rabbi's, though I agreed to pick it up in order to convince him to come along). The ride over was fun: he handed me his homework and I had to correct it while giving him step-by-step directions to Scruffy's house. And all I really wanted to do was goggle at the trees in bloom: magnolias, cherries, even crabapples. A while ago,
innerdoggie asked if we were having a "Missouri winter". I said we weren't--it was too mild and damp. But damned if this isn't a "Missouri spring" in every climatological detail.
