btw, when was it you first heard about the song contest? The name of the event changed a bit over the years. I remember the official name being "Grand-Prix Eurovision de la chanson", back then everybody just called it "der Grand Prix" here. There were a couple of other entertainment shows broadcast via Eurovision ("Einer wird gewinnen", "Wetten, dass...?", "Verstehen Sie Spaß?") and they all started with the Eurovision logo and fanfare. So every time I hear "Eurovision" it makes me think of 80s TV first and foremost. But tbh I haven't been watching the song contest for the last ten years anyway.
