Thank you, Internet! This quote has been stuck in my head (in slightly mutated form) since I graduated, but I haven't been able to source it before.
Ellis E. Reid, presiding judge of the First Municipal District of the Cook County Circuit Court, said, "U of C is funny. They're not prejudiced, they're elitist. They have nothing against your color, as long as you're a genius," said Reid, a black 1959 graduate of the school. Now if I could only find out who described the College as "the largest gathering of neurotic adolescents since the Children's Crusade", I would be content.
