We seem to have gone through a period of FDA hypervigilence in our recent past, judging by some of the things that have been banned due to trace amounts of toxins. The sweet grass vodka I mentioned earlier is one example, as is absinthe and anything else with wormwood extract.
One thing I always found curious here was the lack of Johannisbeeren. Then I did some research and found that they had a role in spreading white pine blister rust, which led to the banning of their cultivation in areas with important timber industry. They're supposedly making a slow comeback, but I doubt it will really snowball unless someone starts making some outlandish claims about their use as an antioxidant/anticarcinogenic/memory enhancer/what-have-you.
