I do plan to ask. I know that he needs time alone, and I don't have a problem giving it to him. But there's simply nothing I hate more than getting the silent treatment. In my passive-aggressive childhood, this was always the worst reaction imaginable and so it still makes me absolutely furious even when I know it's not someone's intent.
