Friday, [livejournal.com profile] monshu decided we both deserved a reward for getting through the past couple days, so we met at Mia Francesca. I had the chicken with prosciutto in a brandy sauce, which turned out to be richer than I expected, plus a side of risotto with mascarpone. The GWO had some grouper dish and we both passed on desert.

As luck would have it, they sat us in what I've come to think of as our usual booth (is that a rule of restaurants comparable to the rule of reruns with syndicated shows) which has a good view of one of the televisions at the bar. As a result, we got an eyeful of the pyrotechnic orgasm that was the Opening Ceremonies.

We schnagged some ice cream from the convenient ten minutes before closing and plopped down to eat it on [livejournal.com profile] monshu's couch as we watched the Parade of Nations. Thank goodness [livejournal.com profile] tisoi had already informed me they'd be marching in according to the stroke count (and, presumably, order) of the first character in the Chinese names, since I'd never have figured it out. Holy naked boys, there was a lot of fugly on display there.

Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] monshu continued packing with minimal interference from me. When he could stand no more, he headed down to Market Days on Halsted and I went west to a barbecue at the house of a friend of my sister's from high school. As a bonus, another mutual high school friend was there as well as both women's fathers, so we got in some catching up. As an extra super special bonus, I twisted the arm of our hostess into making mojitos with the fresh mint towering over her backyard. I won't say they were amazing, but I did drink three; you tell me what you think that means.

It was so bloody nice out--more like mid-September than early August--that I actually walked all the way back home from Budlong Woods. On the way, I cut through Winnemac Park and stumbled upon an open-air screening of E.T. just south of Admundsen High. It's events like that that give me some hope for the survival of community.

Unfortunately, I had a rough night and compensated by sleeping in, which made me even less useful to [livejournal.com profile] monshu in completing his Sunday morning packing. Around 2 p.m., we figured enough had been done and headed down to the Ginza Festival at the Midwest Buddhist Temple. Good weather brought out the crowds and they began to run out of food before 4 o'clock--something I've never seen happen there before.

We also ran into [livejournal.com profile] niemandsrose, but lost her in the seething mass of humanity around the time that my back decided it couldn't take any more of this standing about and we decided to pack it in. A little rest at home, however, and I was ready to join [livejournal.com profile] monshu in a cocktail on the deck, which gave us a chance to discuss some of the crap going down right now that I'm still not particularly ready to post about yet.

For dinner, we ordered from Little India, since this may be our very last chance to do that. (As a compensation, of course, we'll be spitting distance from the real Little India on Devon.) A couple calls to my flesh 'n' blood and I'll be ready for bed.

Clark and Devon, more or less. You'll have a chance to see it soon!
