goodboi asked for earthquake stories, so I borried me one from a co-worker. (Due to poor scheduling, I was asleep when this one struck, just as I was for the two before it. Why couldn't it have hit at 4:37 in the p.m., when it would've added to the festive atmosphere of a Friday afternoon?) She's originally from Little Egypt (this is the one I told y'all about who used to eat dirt) and her mother still lives down there. The old lady must not be doing too well, because she has a hospital bed at home. In any case, she woke up a little after 5 a.m. this morning and noticed it shaking (aftershocks?), so she got up and unplugged it (on the assumption that it was malfunctioning somehow), and went back to sleep!

My co-worker Pablo watched the t.v. news this morning and felt a certain empathy for the hapless reporters dispatched to the south of the state searching behind bales and under bushels for any sign of telegenic damage and coming up empty-handed. I've yet to call my relatives down in STL to find out whether any irreplaceable figurines fell off high shelves, or baked-playdo frames from the wall.
