None of these seemed to merit a post of its own, so I've been saving them up, but too long and they'll get stale. Looks like last weekend will go down as the weekend that spring came to Chicago this year.
  • Leaving work Friday, I noticed for the first time green blades among the dark mud and dull dead grass on campus, but I was unprepared for the greenness of [livejournal.com profile] bunj and e.'s lawn when I came by on Saturday.
  • Cutting through the park on Sunday, I heard birdsong everywhere, mostly from a flock starlings nesting in no fewer than four bare trees. It had rained and the ground was littered in small red treebuds in some places, mostly beneath the elms.
  • Monday, as previously mentioned, I saw a few snowdrops blooming. Yesterday, I passed the spot again and their number seems to have doubled while daffodils and tulips are sprouting all around them.
  • Just next to there are some hyacinths that opened prematurely and ended up paying for it. I thought they were goners, but a good half of them have recovered and are flowering beautifully.
  • I'm not sure what's to become of the daffodils in the pocket garden. Some workman were there two days ago with a leaf blower cleaning out the detritus and several of the plants with buds ready to burst are still looking completely squished. On the other hand, one of the trees is covered in tiny yellow-green pollen-spreading flowers.
  • On the south side of the building, however, I spotted my first aconite in bloom. There are some crocus shoots, but no buds yet.
  • Tuesday morning walking to work I caught a glimpse of a patch of yellow blooms in someone's front yard, but I've been too distracted to go over and investigate. Could be more aconite or could be the first crocuses.
  • Update! Crocuses spotted in a south-facing yard on a side street I took back from lunch. Also, one dandelion with at least three open blossoms! There's also a dandelion bloom in the pocket garden that I simply hadn't noticed before.
What have the rest of you noticed so far?

Signs of spring

More people showing up at the nude beach in Montgat.

Crews out cutting weeds from Badalona to Premià de Mar.

And I'm wearing my bike shorts now and sweating more.

Sí que podria explicar-te com he après el català, però no sé com explicar el perquè de la seva "excel·lència" perquè no crec que n'hi ha gens.
