Epiphany shopping spree!
Some people feel a need for Three Kings. I'd say I'm doing pretty damn well with just one.
monshu borrowed my idea of coupons/tokens for Christmas/Hogmanay gifts to me. One was for a scarf which I selected online and is hopefully in the mail to us even as I write this. The other was a shopping trip downtown "to buy all the things you asked for that your family didn't get for you". I thought he was half-joking; three big-ticket items of clothing later, I realise how serious he was. Finally, a pair of black jeans that fits my big fat ass again!
I'm most excited about the winter coat, though. The one I bought on sale several years ago (after--as he can attest--something like an hour of agony) I've never really warmed to and only wear when I can't avoid it (i.e. wind chill in the single digits and below). This trip was dismayingly reminiscent until the ditzy clerk finally pointed out that we could order from one of the phones in the back of the store and get the coat I liked without being forced to choose between the colour scheme I preferred and the size that fit me best. The only downside is that we're not allowed to have any winter storms between now and like the 15th.
We kicked it all off with a lovely lunch of grilled fish at Bandera--why have we stayed away so long? (Note to self: Learn how to make their fluffy cornbread.) The only sour note was our consultation with a jeweller: Apparently there is nothing that can be done to modify the titanium ring I had custom made for
monshu so that it does not slip off his ring finger. I suggested having another ring fitted inside it, but the man kept repeating, "There's nothing we can do with this." Poop!
