A new post will be reading!
In other local news, it looks like something is finally moving into the grand shell of Như Hoa (the late Laotian place on Argyle I took
cpratt and
danlmarmot to on their last trip to Chicago). The mailbox says "Pho Xua", which I'm assuming is "Phở Xưa" and not "Phở Xua" (because however bad "ancient phở" is, "phở of driving away" is worse). There's a colourful poster on the door which reads "Coming soon...Vietnamese cuisine will be serving!" It's a cute bit of Engrish which suggests to me that Vietnamese may be a topic-prominent language like Chinese even though my textbook doesn't really mention that. That is, what comes first may or may not be the subject depending on where the emphasis is and pronouns are often dropped if they are recoverable from context. So a possible paraphrase of the original Vietnamese version of this slogan could be "[As for] Vietnamese cuisine, [we] will be serving [it]."
