Possibly urban legend, but "box of grenades" supposedly appeared in a vocab list in an elementary text for one of the Central Asian languages taught at Indiana in the summer.
Similarly...another professor in the department we were just discussing in another thread said the first verb you learned in a language told you a lot: in French, often aimer/chanter. Russian: rabotat', to work. I can't remember his other examples. It was a funny, not entirely serious observation.
