Keeping everyone happy

monshu's staff holiday party. Last year, I said I'd go, but then there was some stupid presentation I supposedly had to attend on that date and I had to renege. So I promised him this year would be different--and, wouldn't you know it, my staff holiday party got scheduled for the same date.
I would just blow it off, but I assured an Indian friend who's giving a dance performance that I'd introduce her, as I did last year. She's inordinately nervous and needs the moral support. So I'll have to leavemonshu's party early and trek all the way the hell back here to do that. I would've taken the whole day off and spared myself one long el trip, but I had a bimonthly meeting with my boss this morning.
On top of all this, our buddy ottr4bear called him up last night and they made dinner plans! As a sop to me, they agreed to dine in at ottr's, which is across town from my staff party. (Across this town, that is, not across Chicago.) I'm looking forward to it all, but I wouldn't have minded having it all spread out over more than eight contiguous hours.
