Recent vignettes

• Yesterday evening, I was leaving work through the back way. From within the loading dock area, I could hear smooth R&B BOOMING on a car stereo outside. I figured it was one of my co-workers and geared up to razz him about opening a dance club in the parking lot. But when I got outside, I saw that it was two women about my age who I don't know slow dancing in formalwear to a love ballad beside an open car door.
• The other night, I was alone in an el car until a doled out middle-aged black couple got on. She, wearing white pumps and a light-coloured dress, carried a large fancy shopping bag in which I glimpsed flowers that she set down in and began ripping open a plastic bag in order to use it as a seat cover. The man, already seated, sort of rolled his eyes as the whole fuss. He was wearing a striped shirt about two sizes two large with thick cuffs and collar and his headgear matched his handwear: White gloves and spotless white baseball cap.
• Sunday I went for a walk in the park. The ground underneath one of the large shade trees was covered in confetti. Upon closer examination, I found a palm-sized black paper circle that, when turned over, revealed itself to be the eye from a piñata.
