monshu's--and that's with taking a cab! Stupid O'Hare!
Yesterday was the Museum Mile: Coffee at the Neue Gallerie, East Asian art at the Metropolitan, and contemporary Indian art at the Asia Society. First the disappointments: Cafe Sabarsky may have the edge on Meinl in terms of ambiance (high ceilings, dark wood, view of Central Park), but the hometown favourite still has the only coffee in this world I really like. The Asia Society has considerably downsized its book selection in order to stock more gee-gaws, knick-knacks, doo-dads, and what-nots. Also, mediocre meals at a family diner on Park Avenue (or was it Lexington?) and at an artsy-craftsy bistrot in Tribeca called Le Zinc.
Foodwise, we did better today: Pastrami on pumpernickel bagel and black-and-whites from a bagelry in the same building as the hotel. At 9:35, over half an hour after our airport shuttle was supposed to arrive (SuperShuttle--don't use them! whenmonshu told the concierge the name, she said, "You should've told us! They have a terrible name.") I asked my bigger half if he wanted anything for the flight. "I'll be fine," he told me.
At 10:45, he bought a muffin at the Newark Airport Starbucks.
At 11:10, he bought fudge at a candy stand in the airport.
At 12:35, he relieved me of one of the black-and-whites.
(Good thing I speak reasonably fluent GWOese; that's why I had two on hand.)
