Well, that was fun!

Fire alarm at work. I was in the lounge paging through an ancient New Yorker. (I only read it for the comics.) Which is to say, I was several hundred feet from my coat. Still, I followed protocol and went out in nothing but my long-sleeved shirt. At 15 minutes or so, it wasn't long enough to be uncomfortable, just bracing.

Strange incident after the cops and firefighters arrived: A young dude threw himself on the hood of the unoccupied police car, slid off, and then went racing away before circling back to join his posse. Spontaneous photo-op?

The firefighters threw me by going in without any coats or gear or anything. In Chicago, they suit up even if it's just to pry open an elevator, but here they were indistiguishable from officers of the law. On the plus side, more opportunity to admire the curves on the mustachioed daddy bear at the lead!

No word on what it was, though various co-workers said they smelled "burning popcorn". So, until I have more information, I'm ascribing it to a kernel meltdown.

That's funny - I was doing my treadmill routine at the gym this morning when two companies of firefighters came running in - in kit. No evacuation, no announcements, no fire. Just eight firefighters milling around in front me.

I extended my total workout by 20 minutes.

It just happened again. Fire alarm in the library at 9:20pm. Thirty minutes this time.
