Last night, walking my classmates to the el after our post-class phở dinner (disappointing broth at Phở Xe Lửa [a.k.a. "Train Pho"], but that could be our fault for ordering seafood/combo noodles and not good-old-fashioned beef), I happened to pass
magdalene1 and meekly greeted her. Moments later, we passed Big Chicks regular Friar Tuck and gave him a hearty how-do. Xiao Fei turned to me and said, "Do you know everyone in this part of town?" I protested, "I happen to know two people!" "So you just know all the white people in this part of town?"
Next week is our final class and farewell dinner. Liu laoshi says that we can talk about whatever we want--as long as it's in Chinese! I pointed out that we wouldn't hold ourselves to that without some sort of penalty and offered to bring the Korean wine and tiny glasses. But some of my tongxue balked at the idea of getting drunk. We tried to come up with alternative penalties, but the only suggestion so far is being forced to sing Chinese songs. Any have some better ideas?
