I feel bad about missing the protests Saturday but I'm trying to justify it to myself with the rationalisation that participating in the launch of a queer podcast is an act of resistance and when everyone needs your support there's something to be said for starting with your own community. Weak, I know. Compounding matters is that I took a pass on the previous pro-immigrant protests with the assurance that I'd make this one.

But how damn convenient is it that my "act of resistance" took place in air-conditioned comfort at an elite school rather than 35°C weather crowded into a concrete plaza? I'd made noises about doing both, but I think I knew that I'd end up hanging around up here instead of zipping downtown to join the protest already in progress even before everyone began showing up an hour later than scheduled.

The boys behind everything are super enthusiastic about this project and it's infectious. Not only did they get four of us to agree to be there (in some cases on very short notice) to assist them, but even staff and visitors to the library were smiling and asking questions as they twirled their parasol in the lobby. To think this all started with one of them asking Dr Lazyweb where they could find a space with a whiteboard.
