A breather

Well, would you look at that: the Governor sends all the cops-playing-army-men back to barracks and, magically, all is quiet on West Florissant. We're far from the edge of the woods--seems pretty likely to me that the reason the Ferguson police haven't released preliminary autopsy results for Michael Brown is that they know full well people won't like what it says. But at least at the moment we aren't diving deeper into the underbrush. When even CNN is running articles strongly critical of the overreaction, maybe I'm a bit hasty in saying that the established narrative is winning out. Still feels like we're seeing a halting step forward which will be followed by a full step back, just as in the case of Trayvon Martin.

I'm looking forward to getting away from all the Twitter feeds and Facebook madness for a bit. Tomorrow we've planned an outing to Logan Square, one of the most interesting parts of Chicago I've never seen. It's prompted me to get in touch with my artist buddies who gave me some tips on what to check out. I'm hoping they'll have some recommendations for some art things for the Old Man, which will make it easier for me to steer us into some bookstores. If not, well, there's always the Art Fest on Saturday.
