Monday morning I was going to wear my new boots to work, but a few seconds was all it took to determine they weren't ready to be worn all day. So I've been taking walks every evening to break them in. That evening I went to the lake. Yesterday we had a cloudburst and I walked up to the nearest rise--the Catholic church at Devon and Ridge--to catch a peek at the sunset clouds.

This evening I was having trouble getting motivated so I found a friend in a similar situation and we yanked each other off our duffs. Big Tim had some pieces coming out of the kiln he wanted to retrieve from the studio before their penes raised anyone's ire so he invited me to stop by. We chatted for a few minutes in front of his place and then I set off southward.

I may have overdone it; I really only intended to go as far as Ridge, but it felt so comfortable out--still humid, but down into the teens (bzw. the 60s)--that I kept going deep into Andersonville. The streets seemed exceptionally dark. It was overcast and I didn't glimpse a single firefly, even though there were a few out last night. The streets were relatively empty, but still there was plenty of traffic--joggers, dogwalkers, people returning from friends' houses, etc.

It's funny to me how the feel of the boots changes. I start out with issues in one area, and by the time I'm back their gone and the problem is somewhere else. The one consistent pain point, however, is the right side of my left ankle. No matter how I play with the fit, I can't get the flaps of the tongue not to rub. It's not so bad that I have sores even after an hour of walking, but it's quite a contrast to my old pair, which I hardly noticed on my feet until I took them off.
