Today I really got my hands dirty. It was warm, but not too warm, breezy, and sunny. With thunderstorms predicted for tomorrow, I figured I'd better dig in while I still could. I got the sage in the ground, which necessitated ripping out a patch of woodruff that I transplanted to the hellstrip. The mint went into a larger pot and the geraniums went into their planters, so I'm banking on it not getting cold again. Then I potted the seedlings I would've started indoors if only we had a place to put them: black-eyed susans, dill, and cocozelle. With the exception of the scented geranium, all the indoor-outdoor plants are out on the deck now. The wirevine looks amazingly better after only a couple days in sunshine.

I know I overdid it, but I couldn't help myself. The ground is so moist and loose for a change that weeding was a breeze. I was able to pull up dandelions without breaking the taproot, so I decided I had to do as many as I could. I also made the first batch of woodruff syrup. The plants went from nothing to about to bloom in record time. Thinking I'd lose the day to rainstorms, I "beheaded" them yesterday to buy me some time. Today I was ripping up the patch in fistfuls, which worked well until I had to pick through and clean them before dropping them in the sugar water.

Meanwhile, you'll never guess what the Old Man was up to: Watching Eurovision. He became a quick convert to Team Wurst, so when he had to leave before the scoring in order to prepare the meal (appropriately enough, sausages), I took his seat and gave him running updates (taking particular delight in the snubbing of France and booing of Russia). He all but did a little dance when Conchita gave her victory speech. (I was taken aback to hear them announce her win before all the scores were in. I'd figured out myself that it was mathematically impossible for anyone else to take first place, but owning up to that is simply contrary to the m.o. of every other awards show I've seen.)

After dinner, I was off to a concert in the 'hood. My coworker's band was playing the Red Line Tap. I knew he'd be delighted to get my support, I just didn't realise how much. I tried to beg off his offer of a drink (it was after 9 and I knew I'd be hosed), but he was having none of it. It was a good show--two acoustic guitars, all original material--and two or three of the tunes (including their "one hit single") were genuinely delightful. Several other work friends were there and one was really drunk, which was...interesting. It's been a while since I wanted to flash a wedding band that badly.
