Almost heinous
Another quiet Beltane for us. The Old Man tried some new recipes (he was happier with the chicken cooked in milk(!) than the polenta with broiled veggies) and then I retreated downstairs to watch Almost Famous. When
monshu announced that his next tv series would be Game of Thrones, I switched us to two-at-a-time so I could, you know, maybe see more than two movies over the course of the next year. I was beyond amused to see Noah Taylor show up again, this time as the fictional band's limey manager. The movie was packed with cute cameos and supporting roles (except for Jimmy Fallon as Taylor's replacement; he sucked). The throwaway gay joke left a bad taste in my mouth, but otherwise it all went down very well up until the mildly diabetic happy ending. (I thought the music credits would never stop rolling. There were at least twice as many songs listed as I actually remember hearing, but then it was not my favourite time for music.)
The weather continues to be cold and drippy; I'm not sick yet, but I figure it's only a matter of time--particularly if my weekend ends up being half as busy as it's shaping up to be. Dad's in town and my brother isn't, so I guess I'll be stuck doing a lot of daddysitting--which feels like the least I can do given that I blew off taking a spring trip with him. I'm chuffed, though, at finding a good birthday gift for my sister. She had some BBC adaptation of Gaskell on her wish list, so of course I--as the go-between who brought them together--had to buy it.
monshu will be trickier; he wants some fantasy trilogy that he'll like but hasn't heard of, and he's devoured so many of them over the past couple years that I can't keep track.
