Turning up

Anytime you don't hear from me for days at a time in this space, you know it means I'm either too caught up in having fun or too busy being sick. This past weekend it was both. Things started out well with dinner out both Thursday and Friday as well as a field trip to Bridgeport during the day, but then it all caught up with me Saturday afternoon when I ingested something my body decided to take issue with. I managed to force down some simple butter-and-herb pasta on Saturday night, but all I had over the next 36 hours was a three or four slices of toast, a handful of crackers, and a few almonds, all washed down with some ginger ale and some tisane.

I was in bed and asleep by 9:30 or so. About two hours later, things began working their way out the other end. It all seems to have settled down somewhat, so I've dragged myself in to work. (I really shouldn't've bothered--I've used less than half my sick time for the year and the balance expires in less than two weeks.) For breakfast I had *peanut butter* toast, but I'm still feeling somewhat woozy, so it remains to be seen if I'll last the whole day.

From the timing, it seems like the culprit might've been the ginger drink I had from a coworker's stand at the local art fair. It tasted good, but caused almost immediate reflux, so I passed it on to the Old Man to finish. Nothing else I had that day--a shandy from the Glenwood, leftover anar bij from the previous evening at Masouleh--was at all unusual. (If you're wondering why, if that's the cause, [livejournal.com profile] monshu was unaffected, the answer is that he has an iron stomach for anything but poorly-stored turkey sandwiches.)
