Somewhere in me, there's a ranty post about the thoroughly coopted and commercialised nature of "Pride celebrations" and my conflicted feelings about how the fight for marriage equity has come to dominate and define mainstream "gay activism" in the USA. But this isn't that post.
Here I just want to take a moment to remember the lovely day I had, first at a barbecue in the park and then at a gay block party in my neighbourhood, and thank all those who contributed to making me feel happy and welcomed (
clintswan and
dedos among and above others). But most of all
monshu for being my companion, not just today but all days. We were curling up in bed just now (the three of us) and he heard me chuckle. "I was just thinking," I told him, "about how 'living well is the best revenge'. Every time we climb into bed together like this, it's a 'fuck you' to all the homophobes who have spent their lives trying to prevent it. You lose, we win, so there."
