In the weeds
Scooter asked for my help weeding the alley end of the parkway today and then stood me up. I can't fault him too much as he seems to be the only one doing anything at all to keep it in shape now that the Other Gay Couple are gone. He wanted my help identifying what was a weed (a task which has acquired new urgency in this money-grubbing mockery of municipal regime) but the sad fact was hardly anything wasn't. I passed over the violets because, without them, there'd be hardly anything growing there at all. It's a shame: It gets enough sun and water that it should be possible to do much more with it, but I'll be damned if I'll put any effort into that when none of the condo residents whose apartments face directly down on it can be arsed.
Speaking of those residents, there's a new boy in the building and he's a supercute cub.
monshu says he gives off straight vibes, but I'm holding out hope he might be the two-beer-bi kind of straight boy. We're not too sure of the legality of his status; the Old Man wasn't sure if he said he was living "in his uncle's apartment" or "with his uncle in his apartment". If there were any sign that our do-nothing board were serious about enforcing the rental cap, I suppose it would matter, but we can't even organise a second-quarter meeting. (Our treasurer--who is also responsible for holding up the FHA approval which would allow people to sell their units--is again unavailable.)
At least the Old Man is awakening from his lethargy. Judging from the lovely stew he put together tonight (yesterday he sent me out for sandwiches), he's learning how to use lovage. Last time, it so dominated the dish that he ended up having to load it with apples and caramelised onions to restore some balance. He admits to having a hard time remembering what's coming in well enough to harvest. I find it a little difficult keeping tabs even though I check at least daily. Today I discovered that the marjoram did survive the downpour after all and that there are two catnip seedlings I never noticed before, which turned out to be a boon for Boobers.
