Some things never change
Somehow, despite being aware they were coming up, I managed to miss both the 10-year anniversary of my LJ (back in February) and of my first post (last month). No matter; here, from the archives, it what I often remember as my first post: a rant on airconditioning which is both timely (given what a summer we've had) and badly outdated (given that I've been luxuriating in central AC for the last three summers).
We actually managed to go without it for most of last week after I (surreptitiously) shut it off after one day where the high (30℃) was barely higher than what we have the thermostat set at. Sunday night, the Old Man complained that it would be "another bad sleeping night" and I told him, "So turn the AC on." Secretly, I was happy that he finally gave in, as I was just about to. "Beastly" is the only word the weather we've been having lately; every time I walk outside I feel like the Earth is trying to kill me off.
At least today's cloudiness seems to be shaving a few degrees off the high, though given the contribution of this morning's cloudburst on the relative humidity many would say that it was a poor tradeoff. We'll see; the staff barbecue is this afternoon and I'm sure we'll be grateful for any hint of relief.
