Notes: I felt fortunate to have escaped the storm tonight. Initial projections showed it arriving right about the time I was due to leave work, but the first drops fell only when we were relaxing at table having finished dinner on the porch. The first hailstones arrived a little while later and ranged in size from large peas to hazelnuts or larger.

At first the cat held up remarkably well, bricking just over the threshold so he could observe us through the storm door, but soon enough he was cowering in the closet downstairs. We used to think it was only the thunder that scared him, but I've begun to think even the sound of heavy rain is enough. He came up during the third bout of pouring and I took him in my arms to the nook, but he started eyeing the windows with trepidation and struggling to get away.
