Notes: The inspiration for this entry was coming across the word micocoulier in short story by Gautier. The (common) hackberry was one of the first trees I learned to identify since there was a lovely specimen in our neighbour's yard when we lived in Troy. It had never occurred to me that the genus might exist in Europe as well, let alone that there was a variety there with edible berries which may have been the food of the legendary Lōtophagoi. And I certainly wouldn't have guessed it had such interesting names in other languages.
