Well, this day is turning out nothing like what I had planned.
Ever since my VGF told me about Open Books down on Franklin, I've been meaning to pay a visit. Shortly before I left for St Louis, I imagined today would be the perfect day to do it. I'm off from work and all that was likely to be required of me is a trip or two to the store for some party supplies. A few days ago, it occurred to me that a had a couple of friends in the area likely to be at home; toss in lunch with one or both of them and you'd have yourself a fine little outing.
But when it comes to plans, cold and flu seasons makes fools of us all. I wrestled with whether I was well enough to head down today after all. Of my two pals, one was home sick from work and the other still fighting his cold, which boded ill for a rendezvous. Worse, the prospect of spending a couple hours in a used bookstore didn't make my heart race, and when that happens, I know something is really wrong with me. Plus, just to round things off, my mother was having a minor financial crisis (just now resolved) that I feared I might need to be on tap for.
Things might have gone differently if I'd been able to sleep in a bit, but the cleaning ladies showed up at 8:30 this morning. I did eventually fit in a three-hour nap, and I feel rejuvenated enough that I might make it to a friend's gaming party tonight after all. But first, there are a few things I must get in the mail.
