One candle down
Today I bought things.
And it felt good, because it was such a throwback to how things used to operate. I needed some stuff from the Safeminicks, so I walked over there to get it. I walked. On my own two feet. And it didn't even hurt! Well, not much. Actually, it's my shoulders that are bothering more than my soles because of that damn box of kitty litter.
But now the Beast has a fresh pooping place downstairs. And I have oatmeal squares and granola bars to last a month or more of rushed breakfasts. I also got around to checking out the Aldi, which was closed by the time we stopped by after dinner on Friday. German coworkers had tipped me off to the cheap Weihnachtsgebäck to be found there, so it was disappointing to return with dry pfeffernüsse, bland Spekulatius, and no Lebkuchen to speak of. Definitely no substitute for shopping at the Christkindlmarket--or even World Market, for that matter.
I had notions of heading down to Daley Plaza today. But last night Nuphy reminded me that our next opera is this Saturday, not the Saturday after. So I can hold off a week for my meaty treats. Especially given how gorged we are on leftover turkey right now.
monshu was boiling up the carcass for stock today, and the smell was driving me insane. Amazingly, the need to make room in the fridge has made us even better about using up remnants than usual.
I also flirted with the idea of baking but got no further than picking up a five-pound bag of sugar. Maybe next weekend. The important thing is that we got the advent wreath up and running. First Sunday of Advent, already! It's good because it's lit a fire under me. I've done more to tidy up the disaster of a library in one day than I have in a whole year. And I finally plunged into online purchasing.
I don't know why makes me put it off so long every time. It's not like I'm going to scour the stores in search of better bargains over the next few weeks. Particularly this year, when I'm less inspired than most. Does anyone really need me to buy them shit? No, not in the least. I desperately need to go on a shopping spree for myself, though. Clothing stocks were run down before I got laid up, and every frayed shirt or torn sock I retire makes me sigh wistfully.
