When I began hunting around YouTube last night for examples of "Swedish rap", this isn't quite what I had in mind:

So as those of you who read a Scandinavian language have already gathered (I know there are at least three of you out there, and I suspect more--y'all are surprising that way), a couple days ago I started reading Let the right one in. In truth, I've only been rereading it so far, since I've yet to reach the page I stopped on last year. The reason is that each chapter corresponds to a date between October 21st and November 30th, so I'm pacing myself accordingly.

Early on, we learn that our young protagonist has an affinity for the phrase "The earth will drink his blood". Naturally, I was curious to discover the original Swedish version. Googling my first guess, "Jorden ska(ll) dricka hans blod," produced disappointingly slim pickings. Yesterday I came across the word mark glossed as "ground" in Colloquial Swedish and tried substituting that. Success? Well, more hits at least. (Thirteen, in fact.)

For the hell of it, I also tried Googling some versions in other languages. "La tierra beberá su sangre" took me right to a bootleg of the Spanish translation on Scribd, but no French sentence I've come up with has produced any results. I was stuck on the German version until I substituted "soll" for "wird"; then I discovered that, true to their love of arbitrarily changing titles around, the Germans have published Lindqvist's book as So finster die Nacht ("So dark the night").
