In the land without Internet
Yesterday I told
monshu about the classic xkcd comic and as a result he ribbed me about the time I've been spending lately arguing online by asking, "Are you making the Internet safe for me?" Unfortunately, a chunk of that time has been sunk into a debate on Facebook (I know, shoot me now) which he doesn't even read any more. Ah, well.
Fortunately, today I manage to escape temptation by slipping away to Montrose Point. My friend Diego called me from there yesterday and made me nostalgic for the Sunday afternoons I whiled away watching Ecuadorians play soccer or Chads play volleyball. So I hopped out of the express bus within spitting distance of my old place and went to check on the prairie garden I helped plant. It's filled in so nicely I predict this is the year that it really comes into its own.
From there I hiked over to Lake and watched the whitecaps until the cutting breeze got to be too much and I began to seek out a sheltered sunny spot where I could read my French novella. But then M³ finally called and said he'd swing by to pick me up. I wanted him to park and ramble about with me, but he had some shopping to take care of first.
So it was off to Devon Market for prepared mole. I also talked him into a bottle of the Cotnari and myself into a bottle of Cockta. When he asked if I wanted anything, I asked him to run me to Mughal Bakery in order to restock my critically low supplies of chand cookies. Then it was off to Lo Mejor de Guerrero; he's never had tamales in his life and I wanted to make sure he began with the best.
From there, we headed down to the Loyola campus for a walk along the surf. Commencement was yesterday, so the grounds were wonderfully short of undergraduates. I got my first glimpse of the interior of Madonna della Strada and it's as attractive inside as it is out. Then it was back to Pod Klonami for chèvre and cocktails as we helped poor
monshu unwind from a stressful afternoon of presidential duties.
