Ordinary time
Crazy weather today. It was so foggy this morning that the horizon disappeared and you couldn't tell where the mist over the Lake ended and the overcast sky began. In the evening, not only couldn't you see the tops of the buildings but some high rises disappeared entirely. The Black Tower just south of
monshu's old apartment block, for instance, was just a jumble of lighted windows with nothing holding them together.
Friday was the day I exhaled. Dad was back in St Louis, my stepmom was home with her daughter, and Illinois Masonic was back to being part of the Lakeview cityscape. I still kept plans vague over the weekend, since I was hoping to see her before she flew back, but I allowed myself a night out with the bears. I went with three friends, none of which was less than a head shorter than me, leading to jokes about a forest ranger and his trio of cubs. If they're all game, it would be a genius Halloween costume!
Sunday, I didn't do much of anything. A few calls to family, some reading, some laundry--for once, nothing out of the ordinary. Even as I raged at my father's pigheadedness in not following doctor's orders, I made myself an appalling cholesterol fest of a breakfast. (Pork chops, eggs, and fried bread.) I got enough rest that I even put in an appearance at Dollar Burger Night, and was rewarded for my trouble with some truly excellent onion rings. I'll have to eat like a monk for the rest of the week to atone!
Despite the fog, my stepmom made it back fine--and in such good shape, she apparently met my sister for lunch. My sister also managed to speak with a counselor at the hospital, so finally someone other than my tight-lipped father knows for sure what his restrictions are. Yesterday, I was ready to fly down there myself in order to smack some sense into him; for now, I'm just enjoying being carefree for a moment before the next familial assault.
