An ill wind
Chicago is under attack. I stepped outside this morning to find we'd been invaded by a mass of humid Gulf air. For a moment I considered removing one of my three layers of clothing but soon realised that would be an invitation for regret in the wake of a late-afternoon temperature plunge. Besides, I work near the shore and it's always cooler by the Lake.
In some ways, a wind like this is the closest thing we have here to a Föhn (even though that's notoriously dry and this air is anything but). At least it never fails to make me feel a little odd. I thought I'd be over this cold (or whatever it is) already but I feel worse today than I did yesterday. Mostly, however, I'm worried about my afternoon shift. What kind of oddballs is this sinister warm wind from the South going to blow through the door?
