Six Odd Things #5: Digital
#5: My big toes are not my longest toes
I have well-developed phalanges. My fingers and toes are longer than those of anyone I've ever dated; Nuphy called them "elegant". I find them useful. My handspan, from tip of the thumb to tip of the pinky (outstretched) is 10.5 inches (27 cm.). When I wanted to buy my mother gloves, I put my hands against hers to get a measurement and found that I could fold the tips down over hers at the first joint. My toes are useful for picking up clothing, pens, and other objects from the floor. I could probably manage okay without my arms. (My legs are flexible enough to bring my toes up to mouth; combing my hair would be more challenging, but with practice I might could managed it.)
But one of the queerest things about my digits is that my second toes are longer than my big toes. I never realised this was unusual until a friend of my sister's mentioned some folk belief about this being a sign of being descended from royalty. (Well, I do have some Irish in me, and you know what
princeofcairo says about them: "Sure I'm king! I'm king from this hillock here to that beck o'er there. This is my wife 'Queenie', and our dog 'Prince'.")
I'd post pictures, but I've got a long tradition of work-safeness to uphold.
