Just when the flow of Christmas and New Year's greetings had slowed to a trickle, happy things in the mail! For one, my favouritist shirt (which, naturally, was the one piece of clothing I left behind at my sister's last week) came accompanied with two thank you notes. The one from my nephew I shall quote in full, with annotations for the perplexed:
Dear Uncle Da,

I love the salamander song1 because I like it. I like it so so SO SO SOOOOO much (We have now had two car trips with just this song being played)2. Good day.3 See ya. Good day. Bye.

Love AWI (and ECI).
1As part of my ongoing attempt to replace the vapid children's music they've grown fond of (recent example: The Fire Truck Song from the Fisher Price® Little People® album), my gift to them this year was Peter Himmelman's My best friend is a salamander.
2This commentary suggests my sister may have had a hand in the composition of the letter. That and the fact that it was composed on a word processor with (more-or-less) proper punctuation.
3WTF? An affectation picked up from Jakers! The adventures of Piggley Winks on PBS?

Too bad I can't scan in the accompanying illustration for your delectation. My sister's legend identifies it as Cinderella, but everything about it--from the formal yet reflaxed pose of the figure to the cut of the voluminous flowing purple robes--suggests rather a Gaimanesque portrait of Hikaru Genji.

Beneath this package a box from near Houston containing the promised velvet coat. Does it fit me? How does it look? Is this the first step on a lifetime pursuit of foppery? Will there be photographs? These answers and more are currently winging their way through the air in a reply composed last night in a hasty and horrendous conflation of printing and cursive and I shall not spoiler them.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] monshu and I have at last joined the Brave New World and acquired (a) a DVD player and (b) a trial subscription to NetFlicks. The first film to wend itself to us was Kurosawa's 蜘蛛巣城 (Throne of Blood), which--sadly--I missed seeing more than a single scene from. Tonight's feature is Bend It Like Beckham with putative Sikh daddy Anupam Kher. Now where did I put that copy of Beat the Devil which I got, what, five years ago now?
