Report from Redbird Country: Day 1-2
Couldn't ask for a nicer flight in, really. The hour wait to board went quickly with my iPod. I saw only one really cute daddy in line and, when I got on the plane, he was sitting in the fourth row with an empty seat next to him and, incredibly, plenty of room in the storage bin above his head. Sweet! He even retrieved my bag for me! Clear skies, no delays, early arrival. I got to my sister's--and almost immediately slept for two hours.
AWI loved his sugar skull as only an adolescent sweet tooth can. (Should've warned him about the foil before he bit into it, though.) Today I was dragged along to Boo at the Zoo. It was hella crowded, so we took a contrarian route through the exactly those exhibits where people were not. We didn't get much candy, but we didn't have to wait in any lines either. At the last minute, ECI opted for his brother's old lion costume. AWI was grooving on the fantastic "fire bug" (i.e. lava cricket) his mother sewed up for him and topped off with a mask printed out from the PBS site and pantyhose-and-clotheshanger wings. Next year he wants to be "a pink beetle".
Mom and Dad stopped by individually last night, so I got to greet them. Mom wants me to visit her mother, which is fine even though Grandma might well not know who I am any more, and Dad and I might hang out a bit tomorrow before we scout out a restaurant for his birthday.
