PSA re: Phone
YAK-RAPE is back, baby! In my lamitude, I took two weeks to buy and add another phone card. Turns out there's an excellent reason why I had so much trouble finding AT&T Wireless shops: They don't exist! Almost a year after they got swallered up by Chase, my bank is still opening branches with "BankOne" in huge friendly letters, but Cingular's rebranding of their prey is seamlessly complete. Well, there are one or two seams, thus validating my decision to ignore
lhn's advice and eschew both the website and the over-the-phone refill options. The last batch of minutes I added expired after a year; being the frugal type I am, I had less than $2 on the phone when they went "poof!". At the store, I got one of the last "AT&T" cards left; once they sell them all, customers will have no choice but to buy minutes from Cingular--which will expire after six months.
In the year and change since I got the phone, I've consumed less than 1,000 minutes. Turns out
lhn was right about that: Becoming one of "those people" is not inevitable. I still don't use the cell a bit more than I need to. The last time I called someone on a shopping trip was over a month ago when Mom got us completely lost on the Ikea trip. And I've never interrupted a movie or performance with an ill-timed ring (which has more to do with how seldom I get called rather than how conscientious I am about turning if off).
