One of the benefits of going to a group event with other LJers for a change--besides, you know, the witty banter you'd expect from [livejournal.com profile] princeofcairo, [livejournal.com profile] mollpeartree, [livejournal.com profile] bunj, [livejournal.com profile] luckymarty, [livejournal.com profile] lhn, et al.--is the prospect that a better writer than you will write it all up. And so it happens that [livejournal.com profile] mollpeartree has a new entry on Saturday's movie night. (Not only that, but I'm flattered to see that she included my line about El "Synthetic Swede" Brendel being the "Sinbad of 1930".)

I know what you're thinking now: Okay, there's sharp commentary, but is there pointy-headed dissection of lighthearted comedy froth? And how! Just scroll down to comments.

Perhaps it's just as well that LiveJournal ate the post I wrote last Friday about the Chicago International Film Festival wherein I called for recommendations. This weekend is looking tighter than I'd anticipated, what with a possible invitation to Nuphy's, a request to help paint, and sundry other commitments. So far, the only must-see is Cachorro, the film about the Madrid bear scene described by [livejournal.com profile] iberianbear. Showings are:
  1. Sunday, 10 October 08:45 PM
  2. Monday, 11 October 04:30 PM
  3. Tuesday, 12 October 09:00 PM
Between work and class, Monday is out and 9 p.m. is a little late to begin viewing on a school night. Besides, if I shoot for Sunday, I have a fallback in case of tragedy. All showings are at the Landmark at Clark and Diversey. So who's with me?

The showing of Primer, the only film listed I've read a review for in a trusted source (The Onion), that I'd be keenest on is 9:30 p.m. Saturday the 16th. I suspect this one will get a repeat screening in Chicago, even if only at Doc in Hyde Park, but that's little help to me. Unfortunately, that sticks me with the Wednesday, October 13th viewing of Kontroll at 08:45 PM at AMC River East. Let's hope that being Hungarian doesn't also make it like 300 minutes long or something. Thursday the 14th at 6:30 would be perfect for Yun de nanfang, should I decide to see it, and Tuesday, October 19th at 6 would work for Infernal Affairs 2, since I'm a little old for the midnight movie thing. So that means I'm fain to kick it all off with McDull, Prince de la Bun at Landmark this Saturday at 7:30 PM.

Who's with me?
