"C.A.E. Luschnig, Professor of Classics at the University of Idaho in Moscow, is"--the LONELIEST PERSON in the WORLD. At least, that's the image that popped into my head when I read the first line of her bio on the back of the copy of Euripides' Alcestis that she edited. I pictured this elderly Akademiker looking desperately among the goatropers and combineriders for someone who could discuss aorist verbs and hetaerae or at least appreciated a fine Trockenbeerenauslese. Doing a little research, I find that the "E." stands for "Eaton", so maybe she's not as bad off as all that. Nobody really is in academe these days, thanks to the Internet.

Yesterday wasn't much of a day, but what there was was good. I got up and did my laundry (which I'd postponed a week hoping for a day when the hot humidity of the laundry room would be denied climatic synergies) and then went back to bed. I woke up with just enough time to get cleaned up, do a touch of shopping, and make dinner for [livejournal.com profile] monshu, who had been fighting his own losing battle against the accumulated baggage of daily existence. We at least got in a good stroll along the lake after dinner. Sitting in the shade with the northeast wind blowing across the water, I was actually chilly.
