Silly
caitalainn! She attempted to type in the text of a mediaeval Welsh poem instead of just linking to it here. Perhaps she was only trying to maximise my enjoyment by witholding an English translation until I'd slaved a bit. Unfortunately, yesterday was a day for sorting out messed up Chinese records, not playing with Welsh. But the fun news is that there's a copy of the published source, Canu maswedd yr oesoedd canol or Medieval Welsh erotic poetry, where I work! I must pillage it for a juicy poem about gentleman parts.
The more I peruse Cywydd y cedor, the more I'm in awe of the cynghanedd. It's worth attempting to read the original aloud even if you don't know the first thing about Welsh just for all the splendid assonance and consonance. Goddamn it makes modern songwriters look like rankest amateurs!
