I was getting ready to post my tea census (where is yours?) when I read some Friends' entries about parental crap. Hoo, boy. I'd like to take this moment to thank my parents for being really not all that fucked up after all. Yeah, I could've done without so much bickering, nagging, and criticising, but y'all have never been judgemental about my relationships or my life choices in general, you've been very generous with financial support without expecting any from me, and you've made a real effort to stay involved in my life, no matter what, without ever being overbearing or smothering. And all this while making ends meet and getting your own shit together.

That being said, I'm still not coming down for Thanksgiving. I hate travelling that weekend and it makes no sense when I always come for Christmas anyway--especially this year, when I have to come back for my nephew's christening in January.

Filled up today on hearty Lutheran fare at the seminary cafeteria. This marks at least the sixth time I've been there alone and no one has come up and checked whether or not I've been saved. And it's not like they're all repressed Germanic Midwesterns either--for Chrissakes, there are Koreans there! It's like they don't even care that my eternal soul is destined for everlasting torment in the fires of hell. Bastards.

Found a possible clue on the way out: A flyer advertising a discussion with the title: "Should Christians in American celebrate Thanksgiving?" WTF? Last I checked, it was American Christians who invented Thanksgiving. I'm not sure what the angle is unless it's more eating-turkey-equals-dancing-on-the-graves-of-the-Native-Americans humbug.

It all reminds me of something [livejournal.com profile] princeofcairo once said when I mentioned that the Div School was having a non-sectarian winter party. He wasn't surprised. [livejournal.com profile] mollpeartree said, "I thought there'd be more genuine religious feeling in the Div School." and [livejournal.com profile] princeofcairo retorted, "There's more genuine religious feeling in the B-School than in the Div School!" Too true. As a seminarian I knew once said, "You don't get published by saying, 'Jesus really was the Lord after all'."
